2008:
Like all great things in life, everything has to start somewhere, and in the case of CSK vs MI head to head, this is where it all began. The very first 2008 MI vs CSK match was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, while the reverse 2008 MI vs CSK fixture was played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Here’s a look at how things went:
1st Match:Date- 23rd April, 2008. Location- MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Scores- CSK-208/5, MI-202/7. CSK won by 6 runs.
- MOTM- Matthew Hayden.
2nd Match:Date- 14th May, 2008. Location- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Scores- CSK-156/6, MI-158/1. MI won by 9 wickets.
- MOTM- Sanath Jayasuriya.
2009:
This iteration of the IPL was particularly interesting as all the games were played in South Africa due to the overlap with the general elections that year, and while Deccan Chargers eventually emerged to be the title winners, the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings standings were pretty interesting as well:
1st Match:Date- 18th April, 2009. Location- Newlands, Cape Town. Scores- MI-167/7, CSK- 146/7. MI won by 19 runs.
- MOTM- Sachin Tendulkar.
2nd Match:Date- 16th May, 2009. Location- St. George’s Park, Port Elizabeth. Scores- MI-147/5, CSK- 151/3. CSK won by 7 wickets.
- MOTM- Matthew Hayden.
2010:
With the turn of the decade, things just got way more intense! What was something of a rather meek fixture in the past seasons emerged to be one of the fiercest rivalries in IPL history. In 2010, there were 3 MI vs CSK head to head, but the crowning jewel of the trio was the 2010 CSK vs MI final- a match that helped CSK win their maiden IPL title. Let’s take a look:
1st Match:Date- 25th March, 2010. Location- Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai . Scores- CSK-180/2, MI- 181/5. MI won by 5 wickets.
- MOTM- Sachin Tendulkar.

- MOTM- Suresh Raina.
2011:
After the 2010 CSK vs MI final, the 2011 season was rather interesting, and it was mostly due to the fact that the Champions League Twenty20 was a thing back then. The MI vs CSK head to head happened only once this season:
Match:Date- 22nd April, 2011. Location- Wankhede Stadium, 2011. Scores- MI- 164/4, CSK- 156/9. MI won by 8 runs.
- MOTM- Harbhajan Singh.
2012:
The 2012 season was one in which these two juggernauts met 3 times as well, but unlike the 2010 CSK vs MI final, the third match was played during the eliminators. CSK won that match, but were unable to defeat a rampaging KKR team in the finals. Let’s take a look:
1st Match:Date- 4th April, 2012. Location- MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai . Scores- CSK- 112/10, MI- 115/2. MI won by 8 wickets.

- MOTM- MS Dhoni.
2013:
If things weren’t crazy enough, the 2013 IPL made it so! There were 4 2013 CSK vs MI matches, and while the first two were played during the league stage, 2013 CSK vs MI happened during the play-offs as well, and MI ultimately went on to be the champions that season:

- MOTM- Kieron Pollard.
2nd Match:Date- 5th May, 2013. Location- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Scores- MI- 139/5, CSK- 79/10. MI won by 60 runs.
- MOTM- Mitchell Johnson.
Play-off:Date- 21st May, 2013. Location- Feroze Shah Kotla, Delhi. Scores- CSK- 192/1, MI- 144/10. CSK won by 48 runs.

Due to a string of unfortunate events, there were no Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings standings for the 2016 and 2017 seasons as CSK got suspended due to a spot-fixing scandal, so let’s fast forward to 2018.
2018:
CSK managed to script a magical return to the IPL by winning the tournament in 2018, but MI had managed to win the 2017 finals in the meantime. Ironically, while the two rivals did not face off in the finals once again, CSK won the ultimate match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Here’s how the MI vs CSK total matches looked that season:
1st Match:Date- 7th April, 2018. Location- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Scores- MI- 165/4, CSK- 169/9. CSK won by 1 wicket.
- MOTM- Kedar Jadhav.
2nd Match:Date- 28th April, 2018. Location- Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Scores- CSK-169/5, MI- 170/2. MI won by 8 wickets.
- MOTM- Rohit Sharma.
2019:
The rivalry this season was defined by the fact that these two teams met each other once again in the finals, and MI lifted the trophy at the expense of CSK once again. In the MI vs CSK head to head in the 2019 IPL, it won’t be wrong to say that MI were the dominant ones. Here’s how it went:

2020:
The turn of the decade saw the emergence of the pandemic, and as a precautionary measure, the IPL travelled to the UAE once again and was played in a safe bubble. Although there weren’t any notable actions in the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Standings, MI did go on to win the tournament later. Here’s a quick look:

2023:
IPL 2023 was the last tournament when CSK lifted the coveted trophy, but the final match saw the use of the DLS method due to adverse weather conditions. While the final match did not feature MI, here’s how that season’s MI vs CSK head to head total matches went:
