How to Block SIM Cards permanently

In this digital-first era, our smartphones have become an extension of ourselves. They hold our contacts, banking information, social media connections, and access to an array of digital services. Losing your phone or worse, having your SIM card fall into the wrong hands can be a major security concern.

Fortunately, Vi offers several convenient ways to block your SIM card, preventing unauthorized use and protecting your valuable data. Here is a quick guide on how to block your Vi SIM card:

Multiple Ways to Block Your SIM:

1. Online SIM Blocking:

This method is quick and easy and requires a functional alternate number and the ability to receive an OTP (One-Time Password). If your alternate number is not registered with us, please download the Vi App to update your alternate number.

  • Visit the SIM block page on the Vi website & enter your Vi prepaid number
  • Click on "Get OTP to block SIM" (a verification code will be sent via SMS)
  • Enter the OTP, once confirmed, your SIM card will be blocked

2. Blocking via Customer Care:

  • You can call us on 199, or connect with us via Vi WhatsApp number 9654297000
  • Our customer service representative will assist you in blocking your SIM card
  • Be prepared to provide your contact details and answer verification questions for security purposes
  • Alternatively, you can also reach us at customercare@vodafoneidea.com or chat with us via the Vi chatbot (Vic -- available 24x7)

3. Blocking Vi SIM Card at your Nearest Store:

If you require in-person assistance, visit your nearest Vi Store to block your SIM card or to get a SIM replacement done.

Important Note:

  1. Blocking your SIM card will disable all services associated with that number, including calls, texts, and data usage.
  2. After blocking, you may have the option to request a replacement SIM card.
  3. SIM must be replaced within 90 days of barring to keep the number active.
  4. All the services like VAS, recharges, and plan balance would be transferred to the new SIM card once replaced.
  5. Valid Proof of Identity as per the list of Acceptable POIs is required for processing SIM replacement requests.
