In this fast-paced digital world, connectivity plays a crucial role in our lives. Right from work to entertainment and more, we are connected using our smartphones and devices. However, smartphones require a SIM card to connect to the cellular network and work well. Traditional SIM cards evolved with time and became sleeker, from a full-sized card to a nano and even came the virtual route known as eSIMs.
eSIM, short for embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card that is pre-installed or embedded directly into the device, enabling it to connect to the cellular network without a physical SIM card.
Benefits of eSIM:
- An eSIM makes removing/slotting a SIM card every time redundant
- Activate a cellular plan or switch plans without a physical SIM card
- Conveniently use a second SIM card without removing the primary SIM while travelling
- Since eSIMs are integrated into the device, they can be programmed / reprogrammed virtually
- Without the need of a physical SIM card slot, eSIMs can save space allowing for sleeker device designs
- eSIM technology offers enhanced security compared to traditional SIM cards, as the data on an eSIM is encrypted
- eSIMs are less prone to physical damage, loss, or theft
